the artist's interpretation
Look at them. Absolutely soaked. Not a single expression between them. Three hippos in coats, waist-deep in water, dressed as if they’ve just come out of a board meeting and straight into a natural disaster.
But are they panicking? No. Because that would require emotion. Instead, they’re standing there like, “Yep. This is fine. We’ll just wait it out in our Harris Tweed (posh Scottish wool) and dignity.” Probably still arguing over who’s chairing the next meeting.
“The Flood Council” is a portrait of British resilience. And by resilience, we mean doing absolutely nothing and pretending it’s a strategy. It’s dry humour in wet conditions.
And somehow, they’ve still managed to look smug.
